Day 1 of my week long fishing vacation is a success! Looks like a new PB, beating my previous one (from the exact same spot) by about 1 inch. Although this girl has seen better days, possibly just spawned. I hooked her early on in the day while I wasn't paying attention and struggled with the line as she easily spat the hook. I forged on to stalk small trout with nymphs and dry flies. On my way back, I stopped at the pool and tried again with a 2 fly setup. A nymph and squirmy wormy. This time she took the worm and I gingerly pulled her in on the 7x tippet. I brought my 4wt and my new Dragontail Ragnarok 400, but as fate would have it, it had a factory defect and snapped on the first hookup with a small fish. Hopefully the great customer service will have a replacement section sent soon. All in all, a tiring but great day. Tomorrow, the cataract hike!
