PB cutthroat trout! I’m consolidating 3 days at Pyramid lake into this post. Day 1 - after setting up camp I got out for an evening session. I knew the fish would be deep, but they were deeper than I expected. I caught a few Tui chubs, and one 24-inch Lahontan cutthroat trout that was over 50 feet deep. Day 2 - The bite was slow but I caught a few very nice Lahontan cutthroats. A 24-inch, a 17-inch, then an awesome 29-inch fish in the 10+ pound range which is among my best ever. All were 45-65 feet deep. Day 3 - The fishing was slow today, but resulted in one of my best catches ever. I caught three nice-sized Tui chubs in a row. I decided to keep rolling with it, knowing that the big trout here eat Tui chubs, so I must be in the right place. Sure enough, the next hookup was a beast of a Lahontan cutthroat. It measured 30 and 1/4 inches, and was easily over 15 pounds. I caught a similar sized fish here last year, but didn’t get a solid measurement on it, so I’m calling this an official PB. I used a bump-board which is a measuring device used in catch-and-release fishing tournaments to get an accurate measurement. After battling it up to the surface from 45 feet deep, it regurgitated a Tui chub. After safely releasing the trout, I went and retrieved that floating chub to measure it (see the pic of the very dead fish on the yellow bump-board). It was 12 inches! A solid fish in its own right was the snack of my catch! This place is amazing, not just because of the fishing. I could write a lot more. Good time camping with the family. I did some good birding and nature photography too, with my real camera and new telephoto lens, but don’t have time to post any of those now. 🤠🐟 (For those not familiar with Pyramid lake, it is entirely on the Paiute reservation. Reservations and license must be purchased online, and there are some strict fishing regs. I recommend visiting the free museum to learn some local history if it’s your first time there. Trout season is closed July-Sep. I was there in late June)

Spent Father's Day fishing for LCTs. We didn't get any, but we caught their food instead. This was the 1st time catching this species for my Dad and myself. Who knew that they hit on lures. They are fun little fighters, though. Some fish, are better than no fish.
