12/09/24: mchenry county il. got out before heading back to school for finals to use up the waxies. Just under 4 inches clear ice. Held my body weight well but didn't take the gamble and fished mainly off the pier. 10.5 ft of water waxies on tungsten. Nothing of size yet this year. Ice depth varied throughout the lake. Wait for 2 or 3 days of subfreezing temps before it's back to safer ice all around. Find alternatives during these warm stretches and stay on piers or at least close to shore

Lost count eventually. There has to be thousands of sunfish in this lake. They were really smashing the San Juan worm this day
