Caught this northern pike today. 5 species in the books so far. Unfortunately the poor guy was gill hooked by the rear trebles and ruptured a gill fighting me to the net. Spent 15 minutes in the water with him trying to get water through his gills and getting him up right, but he didn't make it. Any advice on avoiding a gill hooked fish again, or is it something that is bound to happen occasionally?
