Recent Catches At Douglas Reservoir

This post contains two locations fished back-to-back on the same day. First time kayak fishing Douglas Reservoir. Caught a few rainbow trout before the breezy ripples turned into whitecaps, and I retreated to the shore. I then fished a good portion of shoreline, but didn’t get any bites so I decided to go fish Horsetooth instead. With the parking lot above the north swim area open, I parked there and fished a section of shoreline that I’d never scrambled along before. The bite was slow. I missed a few bites and lost a hookup, ultimately getting skunked for the afternoon. Although the wind was forecast to escalate, it gradually tapered from blasting to a nearly calm sunset. Still, it’s a nice place to get skunked. I captured a few cool pics before and after the sunset.

It’d been several years since I’d icefished Douglas reservoir. There was about 4 inches of ice today and the lake was very noisy making more ice! (Turn up volume on the video clip to hear the lake singing. Yes it’s real and it was making those sounds constantly!) I was hoping to catch a walleye, but only caught a couple rainbow trout. Missed a few bites, but I think those were probably trout too. Got off the ice on time to get to my daughter’s basketball game and watch her team win!

I caught a handful of trout in Douglas Reservoir this morning. I usually fish this reservoir earlier in the season when the water is cooler. Now that it's warmer, the trout don't seem as aggressive.

After targeting pike in a nearby reservoir and catching nothing, I spent a short time at Douglas Reservoir and was rewarded with a trout.
